- Topic: Olivia Johnston is an artist and curator working in Ottawa, currently completing an art history degree at Carleton University. Her talk examined the inspiration that can be derived from the art historical canon for artists working in visual media. Johnston discussed the value of engaging with the work of past artists in creating new work, and how visual artists of all kinds, including photo-based artists, can benefit from the study of art history, both aesthetically and academically. Johnston examined the work of artists throughout the canon and discussed her own work within this context as well.
